The Tulsa Shock used the No. 3 pick in the WNBA Draft to select Skylar Diggins from the University of Notre Dame.

The two-time Big East Player of the Year and 2013 first-team All-American will join a franchise in need of a boost.  Tulsa struggled to a 9-25 record in 2012 following its 3-31 mark in 2011.

"Skylar is a natural leader who is someone we are excited to build our team around at the guard position," Shock President Steve Swetoha said. "Her style, intelligence and excitement for the game offensively and defensively is infectious and it is going to be fun to see her play in this lineup."

Notre Dame's all-time leader in points and steals was considered the top point guard in women's college basketball and should provide Tulsa with a consistent floor leader.

"We are so excited to have Skylar join the Tulsa Shock," Shock Head Coach Gary Kloppenburg said. "Her leadership and toughness fit perfectly with our style of play. I know our fans will make her feel welcome in Tulsa and our coaching staff can't wait to start working with her in training camp May 5th"

In addition to Diggins, Tulsa also selected Kansas' Angel Goodrich with the 29th overall pick (third round).  Goodrich is a Talhlequah native and played her at Sequoyah High School.

The Phoenix Mercury used the No. 1 overall pick on Baylor's Brittney Griner, while Delaware's Elenne Delle Donne was selected second by the Chicago Sky.

The Shock opens the season Saturday, May 25 at Atlanta.
