Two Chelsea children were airlifted by medical helicopter Saturday morning after crashing an all-terrain vehicle.

An 8-year-old boy was driving a 2012 Arctic Cat 450 ATV, and a 7-year-old girl was his passenger. The two were driving on private property north of Adair in Mayes County just before 9 a.m. when the ATV overturned.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the boy failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the trail and collided with a rock. The boy was also traveling at an unsafe speed, the OHP collision report said.

Both were transported by helicopter to a Tulsa hospital, where the boy is stable, OHP said. The girl was admitted in critical condition.

Neither were wearing helmets.
