The Wagoner County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in the weekend beating of a casino winner. Deputies in Wagoner County arrested Charles Powell Monday afternoon.

Powell is suspected of befriending and then beating a man who won a couple thousand dollars at an area casino.

The case is a reminder for all casino goers to not gamble with their safety

Investigators say early Saturday morning a man who won two thousand dollars at the Hard Rock Casino in Catoosa accepted a ride from two men and was later beaten and robbed.

"Apparently these guys had befriended him throughout the night, starting watching him when he was getting ahead on his machine," said Wagoner County Sheriff Bob Colbert.

The victim, a 40-year-old man from Oklahoma City, was in the area doing contract work and didn't have a vehicle.

Investigators say the suspect Charles Powell and another man, considered a witness right now, took the victim to Powell's home in an unincorporated area near Catoosa. After being beaten and robbed, the victim was left in the street on East 4th Street South.

"He took a severe beating," Colbert said.

The victim spent the rest of the night in a big rig parked outside a home and then asked the residents to call for help the next morning.

In this case, the victim willingly left with the two men, but Sheriff Bob Colbert says anyone leaving a casino should be cautious. He says go ahead and ask for security to escort you to your car.

"These security guys are great," the sheriff said.

"Utilize that help, definitely, if you win money because there are people preying on you and watching you the whole time you're in there."

He adds people should watch for anyone following them home.

Anna Martin, who sometimes gambles at area casinos, says it's good advice. She's always cautious.

"Be careful. Spend the night there or something - that's what I do. If I win money, I spend the night," said Catoosa resident Anna Martin.

The suspect, Charles Powell, is also a registered sex offender with a second degree rape conviction in Tulsa in 1999. Investigators say Powell will likely be charged with robbery.

The District Attorney will likely add charges for the assault once the investigation is complete.

No money was recovered in Powell's arrest.
