A toddler severely injured earlier this week in an apparent case of child abuse has died of her injuries. Police say the 18-month-old daughter of Heidi Benjamin died Friday morning.

A complaint of first degree murder has been lodged against the mother's boyfriend, Scott Bolden, 24. He is being held without bond.

Bolden was arrested on two counts of child abuse Wednesday after the little girl lost consciousness. Doctors said she had suffered significant brain injury and had several old and new bruises on her body.

The child's mother, 19-year-old Heidi Benjamin, told police she didn't call for help after noticing that something was wrong with her daughter who had been left in Bolden's care.

Benjamin has been booked on complaints of child neglect and permitting abuse to her child.

According to court records, Bolden is also charged with two counts of domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor child and threatening an act of violence. These charges stem from his relationship with another woman, a former girlfriend who was granted a protective order earlier this year. That woman petitioned the court in January saying Bolden was physically abusive, texted her 114 times in one day and threatened to kill her and her entire family.

Her 4-year-old daughter was included in the protective order. Bolden's next court date in that case is on May 9, 2013.

Another woman filed a protective order in 2008 against Bolden. The court records show an emergency protective order was granted on behalf of the woman's minor child; however, the woman later failed to show up in court. That protective order was dismissed.
