Tulsa Police are trying to find whoever shot and killed a man late Sunday night.

Donald Treat, 43, knocked on a door a few blocks from his west Tulsa home late Sunday night, saying he had been shot and needed help.

His family hopes someone out there knows who killed him.

"I asked through the door, I says, 'Who's there?' and all he said was, 'I've been shot, I need help,'" said Tulsa resident Joe Wreste.

Wreste was watching TV around 10:30, when Treat came to his door on West 7th Street.

"I didn't know what really shape he was in. People can come to your door and say strange things just to get through the door. We just called the police, which I thought was the right thing to do," Wreste said.

"All I know is it's sad for those that are left behind," said Treat's brother-in-law, Steve Wooten.

Wooten said Treat had five children, ages 2 to 16 years. They all lived a few blocks from the house where Treat died.

"It's a sad way for anybody to die--sitting alone on a porch, bleeding to death. Nobody deserves that," Wooten said.

Police are not saying anything about the case, but a review of Department of Corrections records shows Treat has a criminal history and has been incarcerated for drug convictions. Charges were filed in both Tulsa and Wagoner counties. He was released from prison in 2006.

His brother-in-law admits that Treat ran with a questionable crowd, but said it's important to remember his family and the five children whose lives will never be the same.

"People don't realize these victims have families," he said.

Wooten said he and his wife will probably help take care of Treat's children.

He said if anything can come from this, it's that Treat's oldest sons have seen first hand the dangers of drugs.

Other than that, he said, it's just a sad day.

"Basic lack of respect for human life, is all that I can see is the lesson here. How do you fix that? I don't know," Wooten said.

Police have not identified the suspects.
