It's official now; made it back into 90 degree territory today. In fact, if you look at the high/low map on the right as of early this afternoon, courtesy of the OK Mesonet, there were a number of locations on this side of the state that made it to 90 and quite a few locations in the western counties. You have to go all the way back to Sep 25 of last year for the last time we were officially at or above 90. By way of comparison, we had already made it to 90 by April 1st of last year; but then last year was also the warmest on record. By the way, so far this month is still running nearly 8 degrees cooler than normal.

Although yesterday and today have been extremely warm, the next few days will see a break in the heat due to more cloud cover. There will also be a chance for some showers and rumbles of thunder over the next few days and the combination of mostly cloudy skies and at least some scattered rain around the area should keep our daytime highs in the upper 70s to near 80 for Wednesday and Thursday.

This does not appear to be a severe weather event as the dynamics aloft are very weak, but at least some thunder will occur. This is all due to a disturbance aloft that will be moving overhead, but most of the energy with this system will be concentrated further south where the better chances of rain will be. Also, this system is not all that strong to begin with and will be weakening with time. At least, it will bring a decent chance of showers/storms for the Wed-Thu time frame.

As it moves on eastward, our rain chances will be dropping off to only a very slight chance for Friday and Saturday. That will also lead to a little more sunshine and our daytime highs will be well into the 80s over the course of the weekend.

Since our winds will be from a southerly direction through the weekend, then our nights will be on the mild side with morning lows in the 60s to near 70. Our next cool front is not expected till sometime Monday or perhaps into the day Tuesday. There are some timing differences from the longer range products, but that front is expected to bring another brief cool-down for at least a few days. Also, there will be chances of showers/storms for late in the weekend and early next week until the front clears the area and things settle down for a few days.

So, stay tuned and check back for updates.
