Some Tulsa teens are getting some valuable experience at a M.A.S.H. camp. But they aren't learning about Mobile Army Surgical Hospitals. They're learning about Math and Science in Health Careers.

Twenty-four high schoolers interested in working as health care professionals are attending the program, which began Monday and runs through June 21.

The students get experience in a variety of health care careers. They participate in activities like DNA extraction, measuring lung volumes, trauma care and pharmacy simulation. When we visited Monday, the students were going through a geriatric simulation.

"A lot of them are like 'Oh wow, I didn't realize that grandma had so much trouble with this.' You know--that's when you see those light bulbs come on and you know that, whenever they are going to be serving as health care professionals, they are actually going to have that empathy for us," said volunteer Missy McCullough.

OU Tulsa, TCC, and the Northeast Area Health Education Center partnered to put on the camp.
