Owasso Church Holds Book Drive For Moore Tornado Survivors
OWASSO, Oklahoma - The survivors of May's destructive tornadoes need so many things to help get life back to normal.
An effort is underway to make sure students at the elementary schools that were destroyed have plenty of books. First Christian Church in Owasso has launched a "Moore Books for Moore Kids" drive.
They're collecting new or slightly used children's books, for Pre-K through 6th graders, to replace all the books destroyed when the tornado hit the schools.
The church is also accepting cash donations, to help teachers to get the teaching supplies they'll need next year.
"It tugs at our heartstrings, to know that you see the pictures and the images and the value of books and education, and the sacrifices our teachers make everyday," said Jim Schnorrenberg, of the First Christian Church of Owasso.
The congregation's goal is to collect 5,000 books.
You can contribute at the church on North Garnett, or at Sunday services at Stone Canyon Elementary.
