EMSA Issues Medical Heat Alert After Treating 9 People

With the heat index reaching triple digits, EMSA issued Tulsa's third medical heat alert of the year Thursday.

The agency said medics treated nine people for heat-related illnesses by 3:20 p.m. An hour later, they issued an update, saying they had treated three more.

Seven of the 12 patients treated by medics were taken to local hospitals, all in fair condition EMSA says. They said the patients ranged from 12 to 70 years old.

The National Weather Service issued an Excessive Heat Warnings for Thursday and Friday, as well.

And the Department of Environmental Quality issued an Ozone Health Advisory for Tulsa and Osage Counties. The DEQ said it was unhealthy for sensitive groups to spend a lot of time outside. That includes children and people with asthma.

The good news is, Meteorologist Dick Faurot said a change in the weather pattern Friday should bring the temperature down starting Saturday and extending through next week.
