A pregnant woman was taken to a Tulsa hospital to be checked out after her condominium at 61st and Lakewood caught on fire early Wednesday.
A driver on 61st Street saw the flames and stopped to call 911 before knocking on the condo's door in an effort to wake people up inside, firefighters said.
A next-door neighbor also jumped into action, using a garden hose to try and douse the flames before TFD arrived on scene just before 12:40 a.m.
Two people inside, including a pregnant woman were able to escape safely, but firefighters said the woman inhaled some smoke, so she was treated by EMSA paramedics and firefighters.
As a precautionary measure, EMSA transported her to a local hospital.
Four people were in a neighboring condo, including a man in his mid-70s who used the garden hose to spray water on the fire.
"It was hard to contain," TFD Capt. Julie Lynn said. "We arrived on scene and it appeared to be a two-story building. But once we got inside, it [was] a four-story building, so there is a lot of voids in there and we had to cut some voids to get the spot flames down."
The Red Cross was called and was assisting the two families.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
