Tulsa Non-Profits Get Big CNG Boost From Apache Corporation

Imagine how much more good a non-profit agency could do for clients, if not for the high cost of gas.

Apache Corporation made a gigantic donation to six non-profit organizations and two cities.

Each of the six agencies, Gatesway Foundation, Family and Children's Services, CAP Tulsa, Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges, Habitat for Humanity and the Tulsa Boys Home gets a free vehicle conversion to natural gas, and a years supply of CNG fuel to operate it. 

"This is huge," said Heather Duncan. 

Heather Duncan is with Community Action Project. It has selected to convert a large van its uses to shuttle supplies to the 13 CAP sites. 

"We're going to save money. We can apply those funds to purchase additional resources for our program," she said.

Habitat for Humanity's going to convert a big box truck they use to pick up items for the ReStore.

"This is one of the coolest moments in my time as executive director," said Paul Kent. 

Tulsa and Broken Arrow each got a vehicle conversion too. In each case the cities will convert a vehicle that is on the road a lot so they can maximize the saving.

Apache estimates all the conversions at something like $150,000, and a years worth of fuel depends on the vehicle. In every case the non-profit agencies said they would use money saved to better help the clients they serve, so who knows really how big this gift ultimately will turn out to be.
