If there was ever a place that brings "it's the thought that counts" to life, it's here. Tulsa football players took over the stage at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America's karaoke night.

"They can't really sing, but they do try at least," Tulsa defensive back Michael Mudoh said.

Garth Brooks, they weren't, but still a big hit with the crowd and their head coach.

"They're giving back, and man, there was no shyness," TU coach Bill Blankenship said. "That's what I love. These guys were there with enthusiasm, it didn't matter how bad they sounded, they were having a good time just trying to encourage folks out there."

"While battling cancer sometimes you lose the fact that there's still joy, there's a reason why you're still alive," Mudoh said. "To be out here and sing and watch them smile and watch them sing along is really heartwarming and a humbling experience."

Coming here has a personal connection for TU. Blankenship is a cancer survivor, and just like on the field, he tried to coach his team to victory.

"Just like what we're going to do with Bowling Green to start the year, we're not going to be stopped," Blankenship said. "I encourage you, just be encouraged. There are a lot of us survivors out there, and we don't want it to be a secret that we understand what you're going through and where you come from."

With training camp two weeks away, TU is running out of summer night, but this one will go down as a win.
