Police say a man who tried to run down an officer with a pickup outside a motel at Tulsa International Airport is in custody.

Police have identified him as Richard Neal Kinison, 38.

The incident started at about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday outside the Hilton Garden Inn, just south of the main terminal.

Tulsa Police say a TIA police officer confronted three people in a pickup after getting a report that a man was prowling in the parking lot.

Police say the driver stopped the truck and obeyed the officer's command to get out. Police say a man in the truck moved into the driver's seat, put the truck into gear and accelerated toward the officer.

The officer fired at the truck which veered off and became disabled. Police say the man jumped out and ran, while the last person in the truck surrendered to the officer.

Police say the two people who surrendered have been released. The Northern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force arrested Kinison in a traffic stop in the 8500 block of East 51st Street later in the day.

He was booked into the Tulsa County jail on a complaint of assault with a dangerous weapon.

Tulsa Police say no one was hurt during Tuesday morning's incident and traffic in and out of TIA was not impacted.
