Sperry Man Describes Finding Toddler In Tulsa Amber Alert

Little Jason Taylor is back with his mom now and his father, Corey Taylor, is in jail.

A citizen on his way to go fishing Thursday morning, spotted the vehicle that had been plastered all over the media and Facebook in Amber Alerts.

Police say Corey Taylor had parked his Tahoe in some weeds near a fishing pond on North Lewis. Both Taylor and his 2-year-old son, he's accused of kidnapping 32 hours earlier, were asleep inside.

Carl Chism, on his way to go fishing with two other men, spotted the Tahoe. He crawled through some tall weeds to confirm the license plate, then called police.

They told him not to let the vehicle leave and he promised he wouldn't.

"I was just thinking all the different scenarios that could happen, whether I get shot, or he shoots the boy or anything dangerous could happen," Chism said. "All I did was sit there patiently and wait for them to come up."

Deputies say Taylor refused to get out willingly and instead, grabbed little Jason in a bear hug.

"We had to make entry by breaking a window and unlocking the vehicle, after giving him many opportunities," said Capt. John Bryant, of the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office. "And as gently as possible, we were able to pull his arms apart on either side, and another deputy came and took the child away."

Chism tried to calm Jason down by talking to him about kid things, just biding time until the boy could be returned to his mother. He even gave the child the shirt off is back when he realized the little boy was cold.

"He likes Bugs Bunny and he eats his carrots," Chism said. "And we talked about a lot, about his birthday and stuff. I mean, I kind of got him to--he was traumatized of course. It's hard on a little fella."

Deputies took Jason to the Amber Alert headquarters at the downtown Tulsa police station, where a lot of officers had worked around the clock on this case.

Many agencies helped in the search, as well as many on-duty and off-duty officers--so many, in fact, communication became a challenge, but all that was forgotten the moment baby and mother were reunited.

"He was happy. You could hear when he got to see mom, he was ecstatic, so everyone's fine," said Sgt. John Adams, with TPD's Child Exploitation Unit.

Right now, Corey Taylor has been booked into jail on two counts of violating a protective order, since a permanent protective order had been issued against him on behalf of his son and son's mother.

Police say she had been letting Taylor see the boy despite the protective order, but they say a judge will have to determine what, if anything, to do about that.
