Sand Springs To Hold Trail-Building Workshop In Keystone Ancient Forest

The Sand Springs Parks Department is looking for a few good nature lovers. If you love the outdoors, the "Get Dirty - Give Back" workshop may be for you.

The series of hands-on outdoor workshops is planned for this fall to teach people basic trail-building skills at the Keystone Ancient Forest.

"We are looking for 25-30 volunteers who are really excited about getting dirty, working hard and sharing in the positive vibe that comes from building trails," said Grant Gerondale, Parks Director for the City of Sand Springs.

"Working together as a group, we'll be creating a new trail at the forest for people to enjoy for many years to come."

Volunteers will learn about basic trail layout and design, trail tread surfaces, slopes, turns, steps and vegetation management. Safety equipment and tools will be provided. The trail-crew workshop series will include several Saturday work dates through the rest of the year and next spring.

The Keystone Ancient Forest is 1,360 acres, and is open monthly for hiking along a 3.5-mile series of trails. The next hike is planned for Saturday, October 12. The forest is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., but leave the family dog behind - no pets allowed.
