Five people were wounded when man fired a handgun during a large gathering at the Green Country Event Center in the 12000 block of East 31st Saturday evening, Tulsa Police said.

Tulsa Police say about 400 people were in the building when the shooting happened just after 8 p.m.

Police say EMSA took the five victims to the hospital with gun shot wounds in the stomach, arms and legs. The victims range in age from their late teens to their early 50s, according to police.

Their conditions are unknown.

Police Captain Mike Williams says thanks to the police helicopter being nearby officers quickly took a man believed to be the shooter into custody.  He says a handgun believed used in the shooting was also recovered.

A second man was also taken into custody.  Captain Williams says both men are being questioned by Tulsa Police detectives.

The shooting occurred at the conclusion of a toast during a Hmong New Year's festival.

Police said there was another meeting underway in another part of the center.  A person from that group told News On 6, they were unaware of the shooting until police told them to evacuate.

The Associated Press contributed to this story.
