Cowgirls Crush Northeastern State

The Oklahoma State Cowgirls rolled over Northeastern State in their final exhibition contest on Monday.

Oklahoma State's women's basketball team scored 17 of the game's first 19 points and never looked back, defeating Northeastern (Okla.) State, 84-47, in its exhibition finale on Monday night in front of 2,267 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The victory ran OSU's winning streak in exhibition play to 16 consecutive games.

After opening the game on a 17-2 run, the Cowgirls cooled off offensively, hitting just 26 percent of their shots in the half. Despite its shooting woes, OSU still held a 42-22 advantage at the break after converting 17 NSU turnovers into 19 points. For the game, the Cowgirls scored 35 points off RiverHawk miscues.

In the second half, OSU connected on 46 percent of its shots and finished the game with four players in double figures in the scoring column.

The Cowgirls finished the game with a 44-16 scoring advantage in the paint and outscored the RiverHawks by a 25-2 count on second-chance opportunities.

Redshirt freshman Brittany Atkins led OSU with 12 points and was joined in double figures by seniors Tiffany Bias and Kendra Suttles, who each scored 11 points, and junior LaShawn Jones, who finished with 10 points. Bias also dished out seven assists and had seven steals.

NSU's Che'Ron Lewis led all scorers with 14 points.

The Cowgirls will get their regular season underway on Friday when they host Lamar at 11 a.m.
