A man who tried to swipe several bags of potato chips pulled out a pistol when confronted by a convenience store clerk, police say.

Just before 3 a.m. Friday, Cushing Police received a robbery call and rushed to the Kum & Go convenience store at 2001 E. Main. The clerk told officers a man walked into the store, grabbed five bags of chips, and walked out.

The employee ran outside to confront the suspect. He said the chip thief pulled out a pistol and pointed it at him, so he backed away. The suspect drove away, and the clerk wasn't hurt.

The clerk gave police and Payne County sheriff's deputies a description of the suspect and his car. A few minutes later, authorities spotted the vehicle at State Highway 18 and 44th Street.

Police said the driver, 20-year-old Yale resident Justin Catron, matched the clerk's description and looked like the suspect seen on the store's surveillance video. Police searched Catron's car and found the bags of chips, along with a black air soft pistol.

Police arrested Catron on complaints of armed robbery and possession of a pistol after a felony conviction. He's expected to be arraigned Friday afternoon.
