TU Women Fall To Harvard

Mariah Turner and Kelsee Grovey both scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Hurricane dropped a 61-57 decision to Harvard on Sunday afternoon in the Fordham Tournament at Rose Hill Gym in Bronx, N.Y. TU fell to 4-5 on the season, while the Crimson moved to 9-3 overall.

Turner led TU with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Kelsee Grovey also scored in double digits with 13. Grovey, Erika Lane and Ashley Clark all had four assists, while Lane and Clark each had three steals.

The Golden Hurricane shot 36-percent from the field, 31-percent from behind the arc and 70-percent from the charity stripe.

Both teams had 21 points off the bench, while Tulsa had 26 points in the paint to Harvard's 14. The Crimson had a 44-32 lead in rebounds and a 6-0 advantage in blocks, while Tulsa had a 19-14 lead in assists and a 9-4 advantage in steals.

There were two tied scores and four lead changes in the first 10 minutes off the clock, including both teams with 18 points at the 10:12 mark. The Crimson took the lead with a three-pointer by Jasmine Evans and Harvard outscored Tulsa, 9-2, to take a seven-point advantage with 6:40 remaining. The Crimson led by nine points twice in the first half, but TU cut the lead to four to trail 35-31 at the break.

There were two more lead changes and two more tied scores in the second frame, and both teams scored 26 points.

Harvard was led by Evans with 17 points, including four three's, Erin McDonnell with 11 points and Temi Fagbenle who tallied a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Ali Curtis had a team-best five assists, while Fagbenle had three blocks.

The Crimson shot 37-percent from the field and 30-percent from three-point range, and were 13-of-19 for 68-percent from the free throw line. Harvard was held to just 23-percent from the field and 11-percent from beyond the arc in the second half.

Tulsa will take on UNCG tomorrow beginning at 12 p.m. at Rose Hill Gym.
