UAB jumped out to a 15-point halftime lead and held off Tulsa for a 76-65 victory at the Donald W. Reynolds Center Wednesday night. The Blazers improved to 10-6 overall and 2-1 in league action, while Tulsa fell to 7-7 and 1-2 in C-USA play.

Tulsa sophomore Ashley Clark scored 16 second-half points for the Hurricane and ended with a game-high 20 points, while freshman Liesl Spoerl totaled 11 points, senior Loren McDaniel and sophomore Kelsee Grovey had 10 points apiece. UAB had four players in double-figures led by Chelsee Black and Karisma Chapman's 16 points.

The Hurricane shot just 33 percent for the game, while UAB knocked down 45 percent of its shots, making 10 3-pointers for the 11-point victory. Tulsa managed to knock down only 2-of-15 treys on the night.

Trailing by 15 points at halftime, Tulsa cut the Blazers lead to single-digits at 51-42 with 11:56 remaining in the contest when McDaniel hit a five-foot jumper. However, that would be as close as Tulsa would get for the remainder of the game. UAB had its largest lead at 76-54 when Schenia Battle connected on a 3-pointer with 1:48 left on the game clock.

Tulsa closed out the game by scoring the final 11 points.

In the first half, UAB shot 45-percent and held Tulsa to 29 percent from the field while building a 40-25 halftime lead. Tulsa was 0-of-9 from 3-point range and was out-rebounded by nine boards.

The Blazers jumped out to a 10-2 lead on four layups and two free throws. Tulsa closed the gap to two points at the 15:17 mark of the first half on an 8-2 run, but UAB responded and in the next seven minutes built an 11-point lead when Ashley Grimes knocked down a 3-pointer with 7:43 remaining in the opening half.

Spoerl's jumper at the 5:08 mark cut the double-digit lead to nine points at 32-23, but the Blazers outscored the Hurricane over the final five minutes 8-2. Tulsa's Kadan Brady's jumper with 16 seconds on the clock sliced UAB's largest first-half lead of 17 points to 15 at intermission, 40-25.

Spoerl had 12 first-half points off the bench to lead Tulsa, while Grimes led UAB with 12 points and five rebounds.
