The City of Tulsa remembered the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Monday.

The annual parade started on John Hope Franklin Boulevard near Elgin with the route passing through the OSU-Tulsa campus and the Greenwood Business District before finishing in front of ONEOK Field in downtown Tulsa.

Hundreds of people took part in the parade, including a number of school and organizations riding or marching in the parade.

On Sunday, the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. "Walk In Peace" event took place in downtown Tulsa.

"The Martin Luther King holiday every year is a chance to reflect back on the things we've gone through and the benefits that we now have," Pleas Thompson of the MLK Commemoration Society said. "Everyone enjoys because of the efforts that he did back when he was alive."

Because Monday is a federal holiday, city offices are closed. If you have a water or sewer problem you'll have to call the city's emergency number. Trash will be collected but the green waste site will be closed. Other closings include Tulsa Parks sites and the city's animal shelter.

News On 6's Havonnah Johnson and Lori Fullbright were in Tulsa's parade, and Ashlei King took part in the city of Wagoner's Martin Luther King Jr. parade.
