Verdigris Firefighters Knock Down Wildfire

Verdigris Firefighters knocked down a wildfire near Highway 66 and Interstate 44 that broke out around 1 p.m. Saturday. The fire damaged about 10 acres.

Neighbors came out trying to protect their land before firefighters arrived. A firefighter said there were several homes and vehicles threatened by the fire, but crews were able to stop it before that happened.

Authorities are still investigating the fire's cause.

Fire danger continues to be high this weekend. Crews battled wildfires in Rogers and Muskogee counties Friday.
