Neighbors Say They'll Sue Recycling Plant In East Tulsa

East Tulsa residents feeling and hearing loud explosions from a nearby recycling plant are fed up and prepared to take action.

They claim the booms coming from the CMC Recycling plant at 1804 N. 166th East Ave. rattle their homes so much the foundations are cracking.

Some are planning lawsuits.

"If a company is causing damage to these homes, it's causing the neighborhood value to go down," Eileen Rowley said.

Rowley and her neighbors said the plant installed a shredder three years ago.

Neighbors say the bangs and booms coming from that shredder are shaking their homes to the core.

Reporter: "How would you describe these booms?"

Rowley: "As far as what it felt like? I thought a bomb went off in our backyard."

Shellie Ginn says the years of explosions across the street caused an addition to her home to slip from its foundation.

Some said CMC sent them a response letter which claims the loud noises happen when they inadvertently process fuel tanks and items that may have left over fuel still in them.

The company said it is trying to reduce the loud noises.

Ginn said the noises wake her up in the middle of the night and shake things off her wall, even an antique mirror.

"We don't even notice anymore because we're so used to them," she said. "It's the big ones that make you jump up out of bed."

Some have hired an attorney to look at possible damages the company may have caused to their homes.

"I think everyone has been working on their own trying to get something done about this, pooling our resources together and working together I think we can put a stop to this," she said.

News On 6 reached out to the plant multiple times throughout the course of this story, but we haven't heard back.

In the reported statement that was provided to us by neighbors, CMC Recycling says it has buildings closer to the shredder and hasn't experienced foundation issues as a result of the loud noises.
