Platty, a dog with a difference, doesn't have a lot of time left. But thanks to the kindness of some animal rescuers, the outgoing dog with a fondness for Cheese Whiz won't be spending his last moments in a cage.

The 10-year-old Golden Retriever was taken to Tulsa Animal Welfare with an inoperable growth in his mouth that left him looking a bit like - well, a platypus.

He was scheduled for euthanasia until volunteer Alli Elmore saw him and fell in love. She and her husband Charles welcomed the Golden into their home and have taken him for medical care.

Though his diagnosis is cancer, Platty is still eating and enjoying life with his new "parents" and has developed quite a following in social media.

Platty has a Facebook page established earlier this month that has quickly grown into a community of almost 10,000 fans. They've even established a memorial fund that take care of Platty in his final days then transfer over to other special needs shelter dogs.

Platty will be meeting some of his fans Sunday at Fontana Shopping Center. He'll be available for paw-tographs from 2 to 4 p.m. at Tail Waggers Tulsa, 4950 South 79th East Avenue.
