Kids were showing a little love before Valentine's Day, lending a helping hand to help others. First graders at Lee Elementary in Tulsa have been collecting coats, and blankets and stuffed animals since mid-January.

On Friday, they delivered the items.

First grade teacher Jenni Caldwell got her class ready to walk to the Parent Child Center with the donations they have been collecting at school.

"We did a canned food drive back in the fall," Caldwell said.

She said the kids loved it and wanted to do it again. Not food, but stuffed animals. Then, when it got cold they expanded, adding blankets and coats. It became a comfort drive.

The plan was for three classes of first graders to walk the five or so blocks to the Parent Child Center; each student with one of the donated stuffed animals.

When everything was ready, they were off. Down the hill heading for the Parent Child Center, three classes of first graders, about 60 kids.

There were several parents along to make sure the kids kept moving safely in the right direction and crossed safely over the major streets. One of the dads said it was like herding cats.

Finally, they made it to the Parent Child Center, and inside for juice and cookies.

Matt Eber, with the Parent Child Center said, "It's great to see these kids helping out other kids with some of the basic stuff."

The Parent Child Center services impact more than 50,000 people in the community each year. Many of them are children.

The donations will also benefit Family and Children's Services, half of the donated items will go there.
