Four Green Country teens who could be the leaders of tomorrow were honored Thursday. The Salvation Army Youth of the Year Banquet was held at TU's Chapman Center.
Neariah Persinger, the young lady selected as Broken Arrow's nominee, was the big winner. At just 16 years old, she has been active with the Boys and Girls Club for the last 12 years.
She said her fundraiser for the Wounded Warriors Project earned her the big honor.
"It's been the place I could go, when I couldn't stay home alone. And it was a place where I could use all my extra energy and get out and help people," Persinger said.
As the Youth of the Year winner, she'll receive a $4,000 scholarship for school.
Persinger said one of the big goals she's working towards right now, is competing in the 2016 Olympics in swimming.
