Good Samaritan Says She Was Conned By Crying Woman In Tulsa

A Tulsa woman who thought she was doing a good deed realized she was actually taken by a scammer.

It's a new twist on an old theme, where people claim to have a sob story and need money from strangers.

In this case, the woman reportedly sheds a lot of tears and has her little boy by her side.

Sherry, a Good Samaritan, said she saw a woman sitting in her parked car crying. When people would ask if she was OK, the woman would tell them her boyfriend was supposed to bring her money because her 16-month-old son has a doctor's appointment, but he didn't show. Then she'd say she doesn't even have the money for gas to drive home to Sapulpa.

"She was sobbing so hard, like uncontrollably crying, that's why I believed her," Sherry said.

Sherry said she was touched by the woman's emotion and the little boy sitting next to her.

"I don't regret helping her, but it made me mad she's got her baby out there and doing that," Sherry said.

Sherry put $20 of gas in the woman's car.

Then she posted about the experience on Facebook and people started coming out of the woodwork, saying they had a similar experience.

One person saw her at a Taco Bueno back in December.

Several people offered her all kinds of help, but she only wanted money.

Sherry said she just wants others to know that the woman may pull at heartstrings, but she is just taking advantage of the kind nature of others.

"I really believed her, truly believed her," Sherry said.

Police will tell you it's best not to give money to anyone who approaches you in a parking lot, no matter how gut-wrenching their story is.

They say if you want to make sure your money really goes to people in need, give it to your church or to local, trusted agencies that have a reputation for helping others.
