Trial Begins For Tulsa Women Accused Of Murdering Toddler

The trial of two women found driving with a dead 19-month-old boy in the back seat began on Wednesday. A jury will have to decide if it was murder, or a natural death that looks like child abuse.

The trial started Wednesday morning and most of the testimony was about the effort to resuscitate 19-month-old Zamontay Green, the toddler found in a car that police stopped.

The two women on trial, Mica Shoate and Jazmine Williams are not related to the child, but told police the mother had given him to them; they're accused of beating the child to death. The medical examiner said it was a major blow to the head that killed the child.

Two police officers gave emotional testimony about the attempt to revive him and how the women were uncooperative and couldn't explain what happened.

Defense attorneys suggested the child had a history of seizures and, what appear to be bruises and cuts, can be explained by how a child looks after death.

The trial started Wednesday morning, and is expected to last three days.
