Hazardous road conditions due to a winter storm are being reported all over Northeast and Central Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority warns drivers to pack water, blankets, jumper cables and flashlights if they must be out on the roads Sunday.

"If you must travel during inclement weather, travel at reduced speeds and keep a safe distance between vehicles," Public Information Officer Jack Damrill said Sunday morning.

Dozens of wrecks have been reported in Tulsa, and officials in neighboring counties said they were having the same issues. Some of the worst conditions are being reported on the Muskogee Turnpike with half to 3/4-inch of snow and sleet, according to OTA.

"The Muskogee area is pretty slick and hazardous right now," Damrill said.

The inside lanes of the Will Rogers Turnpike are slick while the Creek Turnpike is fairly clear as of about 9 a.m. Sunday, but drivers are still advised to use caution due to possible slick spots.

"The roadways were pre-treated Friday, and our guys will be working 12-hour shifts until the roadways are dry."

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol vehicle, Tulsa Police unit and Tulsa fire truck have all been involved in collisions overnight. A woman was transported to the hospital after her husband slid into a fire truck on Highway 169.

Viewers making the trip east across Oklahoma said they saw more than two dozen wrecks along Interstate 44. Interstate 40 between Shawnee and Okmulgee also has had its share of weather-related crashes. Washington County officials have said U.S. Highway 75 is getting worse as the night stretches on and U.S. 412 west of Tulsa is slick and hazardous.

Damrill said the worst wreck so far from the winter weather system was on the H.E. Bailey turnpike. A car was involved in a wreck, and a driver stopped to help that car.

A school bus trying to avoid the crash slid into the Good Samaritan, killing him.
