A couple of squatters have taken up residence at the Osage County Courthouse in Pawhuska and are quite the curiosity around town.

It's a pair of Great Horned Owls, and people at the court house have said they hope the owls have nested there and plan on raising a family.

The normal spot for the pair of owls is on the ledge over the door of the courthouse.

"The male is usually on the south side. Occasionally, I've seen them both up there," said Bigheart Times Newspaper publisher Louise Redcorn.

Redcorn said the pair of owls is quite the story.

"The owls have been there since the end of January, beginning of February, which is their typical nesting period," Redcorn said.

Vote To Name The Owls

Many believe there is a next up there, but no one is positive because they haven't seen it.

"Nobody's been up there yet," said Osage County Commissioner, Bob Jackson. "When they first started, one would get on one side and one on the other."

But they'll know about a nest soon, workers are going to fix a piece of loose trim on the roof next week.

The Bigheart Times newspaper is hosting a naming contest for the owls. There are some good ones so far, Law and Order and Hoot and Nanny, just to name a few.
