Governor Fallin Declares State Of Emergency In Ottawa County
OTTAWA COUNTY, Oklahoma - Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin declared a state of emergency for Ottawa County due to the tornado that hit Quapaw Sunday.
One person was killed and the city's fire station was destroyed by the tornado. It also destroyed five businesses and other structures.
"Our hearts and prayers are with those who have been affected by Sunday's tornado," Fallin said. "The state is prepared to offer every resource available to assist with cleanup, rebuilding and recovery."
A news release says state agencies can make emergency purchases and acquisitions needed to expedite the delivery of resources to the area under the Executive Order.
The order is also a first step in seeking federal assistance, if necessary.
Governor Fallin will be in Quapaw Monday to view the damage and speak with local and state emergency officials.
