A child abuse suspect shot and killed himself during a standoff with Broken Arrow Police early Saturday. It took place in the 8600 block of Willow Springs Court.

Corporal Leon Calhoun said officers arrived at the home at about 10 p.m. Friday. A resident of the house, John Murray Jr., was a suspect in a possible child abuse investigation, he said.

Police were investigating after inappropriate images allegedly were found the man's computer.

When officers got to the home, they saw Murray outside in a vehicle parked in the driveway, a news release states. He had a handgun, and officers told him repeatedly to put the gun on the floorboard of the and get out of the car.

Police say Murray, 60, instead refused to get out of the vehicle and made suicidal statements.

Murray did not point the gun at police, according to Calhoun.

At about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, "officers heard what sounded like a gunshot come from inside the vehicle," Calhoun said. "Officers approached the vehicle a short time later to find the suspect deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound."
