Classmates of Tulsa girl killed in a drive-by-shooting were stunned that their friend will never set foot in high school.

Police said 14-year-old April Montano was killed Thursday night, when someone started shooting at her family's pickup as they made their way back home from a family four wheeling trip.

Montano graduated two days ago from Thoreau Demonstration Academy. One of Montano's friends said she'll miss the classmate who made her laugh and smile.

"I'm happy that I met you. I love your hugs, lol. I don't know what I do without you," said Montano's classmate Lyric Manns.

Manns was reading her eighth grade yearbook, those words were written by one of her closest friends, Montano.

Montano was shot, riding home with family members along Tulsa's Gilcrease Expressway.

Family members tell police someone started shooting at them right after Montano leaned her head against the truck window and went to sleep. She died hours later at a Tulsa hospital.

Police are now trying to find a black car family members say followed them.

Montano's family and friends say she got a new four-wheeler as a gift for her good grades at Thoreau.

"She just graduated, she just got that ATV and she was so excited to get it too," said Manns.

The two girls played clarinet together in band. Manns calls her classmate someone who you could confide in, and bring cheer to your life.

"To be able to have such a good friend, it's a blessing, and to lose someone that close to you is really hard," Manns said.

Manns was hoping the two could carry their friendship through high school. Now, she will now have this note, a something to remember her by.

"While I hope her friendship doesn't go away, I will miss you so much. I love you so much. April Montano," Manns read.

Police are still looking for the people responsible for the shooting and are asking for your help by calling Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS

Thoreau Demonstration Academy said they are saddened to hear of Montano's passing.
