Tulsa Tough Races Scheduled, Rain Or Shine
TULSA, Oklahoma - Bike riders and racers are in town from all over the world for the St. Francis Tulsa Tough series this weekend, and rainy weather is also along for the ride.
If there is going to be wet weather, there must be a wet weather plan, because the Tulsa Tough organizers said the races are on, rain or shine.
It's exciting, lots of riders going really fast with not much margin for error. Now, imagine doing that in the rain, without the windshield wipers of course.
"The general rule is, if it's wet, we ride," said Malcolm McCollam.
McCollam is the Executive Director of St. Francis Tulsa Tough. He said they've been fortunate over the years, particularly the last five with great weather.
In 2008, though, a storm blew through and took out some tents and windows in some downtown buildings. They delayed, but didn't have to cancel.
High Winds or lightning like we had in ‘08 are potentially hazardous, but rain like we had Thursday, not so much.
"What we had today was really good, because it gave the streets a good cleaning," McCollam said.
Optimism, there may be some things to make riding in the rain a more positive experience.
Adam Vanderburg of Lee's Bicycles recommended reducing tire pressure a bit on wet roads.
