Tulsans now have to go to a new place to drop off yard waste. A new 400-acre mulch site is now open near 129th East Avenue and Pine Street. City leaders say this site is eight-times bigger than the previous one.

In addition to bringing yard waste disposal, residents also can come to get free mulch and firewood. You just need to show a valid driver's license with a Tulsa address or Tulsa a utility bill.

While some said it was tough to find, others said they had no problems.

Tulsa resident, Clayton Wilson said, "Everything went pretty smooth, I'm an old blood hound, an old trucker, I used to drive trucks across the country, so following directions is nothing for me."

The City of Tulsa has been using disposal sites for more than 20 years.

Its most recent spot served more than 60,000 customers and produced more than 300,000 cubic yards of mulch from yard waste.

The new site will serve as the new mulch site for the public and the primary disposal site for rock and dirt from city projects.

The new site was purchased with Water and Sewer and Stormwater enterprise funds.

It opened Wednesday morning and will continue to be open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m.- 5 p.m.
