Cherokee Nation Bicyclists To Complete Trail Of Tears Trek

A group of Cherokee Nation bicycle riders who retraced the forced removal their ancestors experienced more than 100 years ago will end their journey Thursday.

Organizers say the 19 cyclists pedaled 950 miles since they started the journey June 1, 2014 in New Echota, Georgia. The group traveled through Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas and finally back into Oklahoma.

They are set to end their ride at the courthouse square in Tahlequah. 

Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker and other officials are expected to attend.
