Tulsa Mayor Urges Drivers To Put Down The Phone

Tulsa's mayor calls on drivers to slow down and be alert in work zones. This after a city worker directing traffic over the weekend was hit by a truck.

Mayor Dewey Bartlett spoke at a news conference calling attention to distracted driving and work zone safety awareness.

On Saturday, June 21, 2014, a dark-colored Ford F150 pickup hit a city worker near a waterline repair project at 11th and Lynn Lane. The driver left the scene.

The 29-year-old woman suffered cuts, bruises and a broken pelvis. Bartlett said the city is going to add off-duty officers in workzone areas. He also stressed that Tulsa drivers need to stay off their phones, pay better attention to their surroundings and not drive while impaired.

"We have to realize that driving while impaired is simply unacceptable; driving distracted is simply unacceptable," said Mayor Dewey Bartlett.
