A Creek County man was taken into custody after deputies received a report of the man stealing campaign signs.

Robert Lucas, 85, was arrested for two misdemeanor counts of petty larceny, one felony count of possession of stolen property and a misdemeanor count of assault and battery.

Deputies spoke with candidate Clayton McKinzie at Kellyville City Hall, according to an arrest report. McKinzie told authorities he saw Lucas pick up a Geron Ledbetter campaign sign. McKinzie said once he told Lucas it was a crime, he put the signs back.

Reports say that McKinzie stood in front of Lucas' vehicle door and called the Creek County Sheriff's Office. He said Lucas then attacked and shoved him, pulled off his shirt and choked him. McKinzie told the deputy Lucas then walked to the passenger-side door and got in his truck.

According to the report, McKinzie said Lucas drove about eight miles, got out of his truck, took one of McKinzie's signs and threw it on the ground. McKinzie said Lucas then drove to Kellyville City Hall.

When deputies made contact with Lucas, he told them he was picking up the signs because they were on public land and he liked to collect them. Lucas said he attacked McKinzie because the candidate was standing in front of his truck door.

Deputies said they found signs that belonged to Clayton McKinzie, Byron Davis, Dax Ewbank, Chad Moody, Brian Bingman, John Doak, Lane Whitehouse, James Leewright, T.W. Shannon, Todd Hiett, James Lankford and Tammie Pollard inside Lucas' truck.

The report said deputies made contact with McKinzie, Davis and Pollard and returned the signs to them. They also say McKinzie and Davis wanted to press charges against Lucas.

Deputies said the remaining signs were booked into evidence.

Lucas was taken to the Creek County Detention Center and booked into jail. His vehicle was released to his wife.
