It was a pet adoption event and more. The Oklahoma Alliance for Animals held Rock and Rescue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28 at Guthrie Green.

Organizers say it was a big success. Rescue groups from all over Green Country set up tents and brought out the adoptable animals to meet the public.

The event featured music, food and a pet-friendly atmosphere, but mostly groups hoped to find homes for dogs from the biggest mastiffs to the tiniest pups and kittens.

Towards the end of the event, a Rock and Rescue volunteer said 24 animal adoptions had been processed at Guthrie Green with numerous others set into motion. The majority of the pets will still have to be spayed or neutered but did find a forever home on Saturday.

Legacy of Hope rescue group said they thought they'd done well last year with two adoptions. This year, they found homes for six dogs. Animal Welfare of Tulsa also said they had found homes for six animals with two more adoptions pending.

Pet owners also took advantage of the chance for $20 microchipping and visits with local pet vendors - vets, trainers, groomers, retailers and more.

Remember animal communicator Pam Case? Rick Wells introduced her to News On 6 viewers last winter. She was at the event to tell owners what she believes is on their pet's mind.

There were also contests for the pets in attendance and complimentary photographs by the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals.

One French bulldog, Tulsa's own Bella Rose, took first in the bikini and rocker costume contests. Bella Rose donated her prizes to the needy dogs at the rescue groups.
