Former Booker T Standout Felix Jones Gives Back

For the 6th year. Felix Jones is giving back.

"I always wanted this coming up, having something around Tulsa that I could claim and say hey, we got a camp," Jones said.

His life and skills camp, held at his alma mater of Booker T Washington High School, is in its 6th year. Other pro football players have helped, but another local star decided to help this time, Denver Broncos Cornerback Chris Harris. Harris says he's happy to help and to throw them some extra lessons on the field.

"And also, coach them up on the field. A lot of these kids aren't getting proper coaching. So we're here to coaching them up on the field and coach them up off the field with how to get to college. Things they need to take to get to college and just setting them up for life," Harris said.

Now that the camp has been going on for 6 years, it's starting to see former camp member pursue their NFL dreams. Take for instance Calvin Barnett. The former OSU Cowboy was in this camp going into his senior year and is now vying for a spot on the Cleveland Browns roster.

"The fact that I have the opportunity now to do what they did for me, I love it. I always love giving back. It does nothing for me for them to see me, but I know that it does something for them," Barnett said.

"That was something to see him in the camp, coaching him up. And now he's here, helping us out. I'm glad I'm able to provide something where he can come back and help," Jones said.

And for the players helping out at camp, they hope this trend of seeing a player from their camp make it professionally can continue.

"It's a blessing, seeing the younger guys follow in the old guys footsteps. For me it was R.W. McQuarters. I just followed his lead and hopefully this younger generation can follow our lead," Robert Meacham said.
