The Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office has requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation investigate an officer-involved shooting, according to a news release.

The shooting took place about 6 a.m. on Thursday at a home in the area of N310 Road and Smith Road near Morris, OSBI says.

It began as a domestic disturbance call between Teddy James Bearden, 26, and his mother, and developed into a car chase where the man was attempting to use his vehicle as a weapon, a news release says.

It all began when a woman called 911 when her son became enraged, OSBI said. She said she  feared Bearden would become violent and that he rammed her vehicle with her inside.

When a deputy made contact with Bearden, he refused to obey officer commands and struggled with the deputy and two Creek Nation Lighthorse Police officers who arrived as backup, OSBI said.

Bearden was able to get inside his vehicle and reportedly rammed one of the officers' vehicles, and turned his vehicle toward the officers.

OSBI said the three officials fired their weapons at Bearden, then he drove north on N310 road and officers pursued him until he crashed his a half-mile away.

Bearden was flown to a Tulsa-area hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. His condition is unknown at this time.

OSBI and crime scene agents are collecting evidence and information and compile a report and deliver it to the district attorney. The D.A. will determine if the shooting was justified.

Bearden has spent several years in prison for assault with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute.
