"Cooler weather is coming." That's what News On 6 Meteorologist Alan Crone said when we asked him about the forecast for this week.

Crone says the weather will be so much cooler by the end of the week it may set records in Tulsa.

"Just a strange shift in the upper air pattern for this time of year," he said. "It's the kind of shift we'd see in the fall or even the winter time."

Crone said the greatest chance of setting a new temperature record in Tulsa will be Thursday morning. The record low for July 17 in Tulsa is 59 degrees set in 1967. He expects the low Thursday morning will be very close to that mark.

Crone says the high temperature on Thursday may also be low enough to set a record, too. The lowest high temperature for July 17 ever recorded in Tulsa was 82 degrees in 1989. Crone says the high temperature this Thursday will be in the mid 70s, which will smash that record.

"There's a very strong upper-level storm that's going to be over the Great Lakes and southeast Canada and because of the change in the upper-level air flow it's going to allow some unseasonably cold air to move down into the upper midwest. Some cooler air will be felt as far south as Oklahoma."

Speaking as both an Oklahoman and a meteorologist, Crone says this week will be wonderful.

"I love cool air to begin with. Any time we can get away from typical July weather, I'm for it," he said with a smile.

"It's unusual but not unprecedented."
