'Unlikely Friends' Bring National Geographic Crew To Chouteau

The Chouteau Pound is expecting some company. A crew from National Geographic is coming to shoot a segment for its series, "Unlikely Animal Friends.”

Pound volunteers have decided to turn the whole thing in to a fundraising party, and we're all invited.

Volunteers were getting ready for a little mid-week party at the pound over in Chouteau; some folks from National Geographic are coming to town.

They have a series about animal odd couples one episode will focus on Piper and G.P. Piper is a pit bull mix and G.P., or Goat Puppy, is, well, a goat.

We met Piper and G.P. 2 years ago. G.P. had a damaged leg which has since been amputated; other than that life is now pretty much regular, G.P. follows Piper around like a puppy and Piper treats G.P. like one of her own.

Julie Free adopted Piper in Chouteau; she’s a dog trainer at Companion Dog Training School, and ever since she adopted Piper she's worked with the dogs to make them more adoptable.

Julie says there are good dogs there, she pointed out a big red dog named Titan.

"He's house trained, and crate trained, he just needs a home,” Free said.

He's hoping to find a home and so are many others. An open house event on Wednesday morning will give them all an opportunity.

Piper and G.P. will be there too; Piper hob-nobbing with the National Geographic folks, and G.P. just hanging out with his mamma like always.

The whole thing kicks off at 9:00 in the morning.

Agility demonstrations, adoption groups, and a silent auction are all part of the fun.

Someone is going to take home a beautiful gas grill and the proceeds will help improve conditions and expand the pound.
