Jenks is kicking off the football season with what organizers are claiming is the largest high school tailgate in the country; they're calling it the Hometown Huddle.

The tailgate wrapped up right before kick off against Bixby, and the group that hosted the event made the claim that it was the largest rally for any high school football team.

"We challenge anybody to tell us that they're bigger, but you know, this is only going to get bigger and better,” said Elizabeth Inbody with the Jenks Public Schools Foundation.

The Hometown Huddle tried to set the bar high when it came to attendance this year. The parking lot in front of Hunter Dwelley Field was packed with vendors and sponsors in a carnival-style block party.

“We're excited. We're excited to see what it's all about,” said Jenks parent, Debbie Lewis. “I think it's awesome. What a community that stands behind their football program and the school provides that for the community, it's amazing,"

Pawpaw Engles is a longtime Trojan fan, and he hopes more parents and students get involved.

“The Jenks community is strong. They're behind their Trojans and they have been," Engles said. “Every kid in high school, junior high, elementary, the parents need to get off their cans and bring their kids to this."

Like a homecoming pep rally, Head Coach Allan Trimble spoke before the game.

"Jenks is a big school, but it's a wonderful small town. The people come out, support their school, support their students, support their sports team. It's an awesome event," Trimble said.

Sally Mulready with the Jenks Public Schools Foundation, said, "It really brings the community together, the greatest thing.”
