Diggins Named To All-WNBA First Team

Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore highlights the 2014 All-WNBA First Team, the WNBA announced today. Moore was a unanimous First Team selection by all 38 voters and finished as the leading vote-getter with 180 points.

Moore, the 2014 WNBA Most Valuable Player presented by Samsung, set WNBA records with 12 games of 30-plus points and four consecutive games of 30 or more points. In addition, she posted a career-high 48 points versus the Atlanta Dream on July 29, marking the second-highest-scoring game in league history. This is the second straight season that Moore, the WNBA's leading scorer at 23.9 ppg, has staked claim to First-Team honors.

Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi received the second-most votes (171) and earned her record-breaking ninth First-Team selection. Her teammate, second-year center Brittney Griner (170), captured her first selection to the All-WNBA First Team. Los Angeles Sparks forward Candace Parker (116) garnered First Team honors for the third consecutive season, while Tulsa Shock guard Skylar Diggins (140) is a first-time honoree.

Taurasi's nine First Team selections (2004, 2006-11, 2013-2014) move her ahead of Lisa Leslie for most in WNBA history. The 11-year pro helped Phoenix to a league-best 29-5 record and the most wins by a team in a single season all-time. She paced the Mercury in points (16.2 ppg) and assists (5.6 apg), while averaging 3.8 rpg.

Parker, the 2013 WNBA MVP, finished the season averaging 19.4 points to go along with 7.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.4 blocks, pacing the Sparks in points, blocks and steals. The 19.4 points is the second-best figure of her career.

Griner, the 2014 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year presented by Samsung, paced the league in blocks with 3.79 bpg. With 129 blocks, Griner surpassed the previous WNBA single-season mark of 114, set by Margo Dydek in 1998. She also posted a WNBA single-game record with 11 blocked shots on June 29 at Tulsa, topping the previous mark of 10, set by Dydek and Leslie. Griner placed in the top 10 in points (15.6 ppg) and rebounds (8.0 rpg), while her .578 shooting percentage from the field ranked second in the WNBA.

Diggins, the 2014 WNBA Most Improved Player presented by Samsung, led the league with 35.1 mpg and ranked second in scoring (20.1 ppg). She started all 34 games for Tulsa and paced the team in scoring, minutes, assists (5.0 apg) and steals (1.5 spg).

Lynx guard Lindsay Whalen (116 points) headlines the 2014 All-WNBA Second Team. The Dream's Angel McCoughtry (90) and the Sparks' Nneka Ogwumike (45) were voted as the Second Team forwards. For the second straight season, Tina Charles (88) of the New York Liberty earned Second Team honors at center, while Danielle Robinson of the San Antonio Stars and Seimone Augustus of the Lynx each tallied 27 points to qualify for the Second Team at the guard position.

Voting for the All-WNBA First and Second Teams was conducted by a panel of 38 national and local sportswriters and broadcasters at the conclusion of the regular season. Players were selected by position and received five points for each First Team vote and three points for each Second Team designation.

In honor of being named to the All-WNBA First and Second Teams, each player will receive a Tiffany & Co. designed trophy. In addition, $10,000 will be awarded to each member of the First Team, while each member of the Second Team will receive $5,000.
