The City of Coweta invites citizens to watch as one of their own is honored. Army Specialist Donald P. Sloat will be awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously Monday at the White House.

Specialist Sloat sacrificed his life to protect his fellow soldiers in Vietnam 40 years ago. He used his body as a shield to protect squad members when a grenade was tripped during a patrol.

The ceremony will be live streamed at the Coweta City Hall starting at 12:50 p.m. - but the city recommends people get there early to make sure they don't miss the experience.

The Coweta City Hall is located at 310 South Broadway. If you can't make the event, watch the Medal of Honor Ceremony live by clicking on the link in this story.

Army Specialist Sloat will be represented by family at the White House ceremony, including his brother, Dr. Bill Sloat, who will receive the Medal of Honor on behalf of Sloat, sister Karen McCaslin, sister Kathy Sloat, and Kathy's daughter, Ashley, according to a release from the City of Coweta.
