Tulsa Jury Trials To Resume In October After Flooding Delays

Jury trials are expected to resume next week after a storm water drain busted and shot water all over the basement of the Tulsa County Courthouse.

Trials were put on hold for more than three weeks as restoration crews cleaned up the mess.

Experts say anytime you get a lot of water damage, there should be concerns about mold in the air.

The jury assembly room has been repaired. All the courthouse workers have to do is place the furniture.

The September rain collected in a courthouse drainage pipe, which burst. Water went everywhere and several county offices had to be relocated, including the jury room.

Several jury trials had to be delayed weeks or even months.

“Obviously all of the criminal courts, probably some of the civil courts are going to have a massive back log, and so they're probably going to have to play catch up," chief deputy for the Tulsa County Court Clerk's Office Vicki Goodson said.

Restoration crews ripped up the dry wall and worked to clear the rooms of any mold.

Jurors will be called in on Oct. 6.

Officials say it's too early to know the estimated cost of the repairs.

"I think our insurance company has sent us some of their estimated costs are, and it's somewhere north of $100,000," Deputy County Commissioner Michael Willis said. "But we won't actually know until we start getting some of the invoices in from the restoration company, from the air testing company, from some of the subcontractors that have worked on it."
