The Northern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force on Tuesday arrested a second person in conjunction with an August homicide.

John Nelson was arrested in the 1300 block of East 53rd Street North following a foot pursuit, police sources say.

The man is a suspect in the killing of a 44-year-old man who was hit by a bullet as he was getting out of bed. The bullet was fired from across the street and reportedly went through two walls before striking him in the chest.

Police said that homicide started out as a petty crime. The incident began when a man and his wife started yelling at people who were breaking into their Honda car parked in the street, TPD said. One of the burglars pulled out a rifle and fired multiple rounds at the couple who were standing on their front porch. The bullets hit the wife's brother, who was in a back bedroom, according to police.

The day after the killing, Henry Harris turned himself into gang officers, and police say Harris was one of five people involved.

Nelson was arrested on Tuesday afternoon.
