An Oklahoma Highway Patrol collision report says a Stillwater man had been drinking when his pickup crossed the center line and hit another vehicle head on, killing a child in that vehicle.

Troopers confirmed to News On 6 that the child's mother died a few hours after the crash.

The double fatality wreck took place shortly before midnight Friday, October 24 on State Highway 51 just east of Stillwater.

James Goblet, 23, was behind the wheel of a 2014 Dodge pickup going westbound in the eastbound lane of traffic when he struck a 2015 Volkswagen driven by McKala Miner of Pawnee, according to troopers.

The truck overturned, and Miner's Volkswagen ran off the road. Miner, 29, was taken in critical condition at an Oklahoma City hospital. Troopers say Dr. Cullen McCarthy pronounced her dead at 6:38 a.m. Saturday.

Her 5-year-old daughter was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say the child was not restrained by a seatbelt. OHP did not release her name due to her age, but family told News On 6 the little girl's name was Halli.

Another passenger in the VW, 23-year-old Forrest Stol of Glencoe, was taken to a hospital in serious condition. Both adults were belted in, the report states.

A passenger in Goblet's truck, 26-year-old Cushing resident Clint Hobbs, was taken to a Stillwater hospital where he is said to be stable.

Goblet was taken to a hospital by a state trooper. After he was released, he was booked into Payne County Jail on a complaint of driving under the influence.

The crash took place as Miner and her passengers were on the way home after having a fun night attending the Homecoming Walkaround on the Oklahoma State University campus.

"(McKala) was a wonderful person, she enjoyed all types of events in the community, she was active in her church, cousin Corey Miner said. "She had her daughter Halli, who was a joy and who was just the most vibrant 5-year-old little girl that you'd ever seen."

Miner said the loss of a loved one is never easy to deal with, but it's harder knowing their loved ones died at the hands of a suspected drunk driver.

"When it is completely unavoidable....it makes it that much more bitter," Corey Miner said. "And I don't know what it's going to take for people to understand that nothing good comes from drinking and driving."
