Oklahoma's race for governor is on with Democrat Joe Dorman challenging Republican Governor Mary Fallin for her job.

Both candidates spent the first half of election day in Tulsa trying to earn last minute, undecided votes. With less than two hours before the polls close, both Dorman and Fallin are confident in their campaigns.

Our exclusive News On 6 poll shows this is an 8-point race with Governor Mary Fallin leading. That came as no surprise to the incumbent who points out she has held onto the lead throughout the campaign. The governor says most Oklahomans want her to continue to govern.

"Thank you for the great economy that we have - continue to focus on our children and our future," she said of the messages from voters.

"My husband I have six children between us, so education is very critical and important to us. Continue to stand up and fight Washington D.C. anytime they might do something to harm our economy or take away our personal rights."

Democratic challenger Joe Dorman visited the News On 6 studio at noon then went to Billie's on the Square. He isn't discouraged by Fallin's projected 8-point lead.

"Its too call right now, and the weather has been a deterrent to people going to the polls - and the ones that do show up are the ones that are angry about some issue or wanting to see something different," he said.

"I think that's going to allow for a very close race tonight."

We asked both candidates why they should be Oklahoma's next governor.

Fallin says she helped improved the state's economy.

"I didn't vote for President Obama; my candidate did, so there is a big difference on how we would govern as governors of this state," she said. "I am a the only true conservative in this race."

Dorman says education will be his top priority.

"I want to make sure we put the adequate resources in without raising taxes and doing the best possible job for all Oklahomans and provide jobs, improve the quality of life but it all goes back to making sure these kids have the best possible opportunity," he said.
